Legal provisions for direct democracy at the regional level

Mexicois a federal state where each of the 32 entities (31 states and the federaldistrict) that made it up has powers to introduce their own direct democracyinstruments that are applicable at both, state and local (municipal) levels. Accordingto a study conducted by the IFE in 2008, referendum was foreseen in the legalframework of 30 of the 32 federative entities; citizens' initiative in 27, andrecall only in three, but with a highly diversified level of regulation. ​
