Quota type

The 2008 reform introduced a 12% quota for the communal elections by the creation of ‘additional electoral constituencies’ for women in urban and rural communities and districts (Article 204-1 and 204-2 of the electoral code) and the creation of a ‘support fund for the promotion of women representativeness’ (Article 288). As a result of this reform, women’s local representation increased from 0.6 to 12.3% in the local election held in 2009.
