Article 167.

(a) There shall be anElections Commission of the Maldives.

(b) The ElectionsCommission is an independent and impartial institution. It shall exercise itsduties and responsibilities in accordance with the Constitution and lawsenacted by the People’s Majlis.

Article 170.

The Elections Commission’s responsibilities andpowers include the following:

(a) to conduct, manage, supervise, and facilitateall elections and public referendums, to ensure the proper exercise of theright to vote, and to ensure that all elections and public referendums are conductedfreely and fairly, without intimidation, aggression, undue influence orcorruption;

(b) to prepare, maintain, and update electoralrolls, and to make all arrangements for holding elections and publicreferendums;
