Article1.

The electors of the free area of the Republic of Chinashall cast ballots at a referendum within three months of the expiration of asix-month period following the public announcement of a proposal passed by theLegislative Yuan on the amendment of the Constitution or alteration of thenational territory. The provisions of Article 4 and Article 174 of theConstitution shall not apply.

Comment

The constitutionalamendments of June 10, 2005 changed the amending procedures by creating themechanism of compulsory referendums for any constitutional amendment in thefuture. According to the 2005 constitutional amendments, the proposal ofconstitutional amendments and any change in the national territory passed bythe legislative Yuan must be put to a national referendum.
