VI. Verification of thesupporting statements

The organiser has the opportunity to submit the forms of supportingstatements to the NEC once within 120 after they have been verified by anattestation clause. Further supporting statements or those ones not listed on theform submitted by the organiser are invalid. The supporting statements areverified by the NEC within 60 days after submission. During the verificationprocess representatives of the organiser are allowed to be present.

There is an innovation in the law i.e. it sets out that the organisercannot withdraw the initiation after it has been submitted, because after thisdate the supporting voters are the bearers of the initiation. Given that thequestion is submitted by the President of the republic or the government, itcan be withdrawn until setting the date of the referendum.

Verification of the supporting statements is done by controlling each ofthem one by one. By determining the number of supporting statements, also thosehave to be taken into account, which supported the question when submitting theinitiation, thus they do not have to support the question again.

If the initiation is affective i.e. as a result of the verification ofsupporting statements the NEC determines that the number of valid supportingstatements reaches 100 000, the chairman  of the NEC informs theSpeaker of the Parliament about the result of the verification of supportingstatements.
