23. Falseclaims to registration.
A person who-
(a) is neither a citizen of Belize nor a citizen of a Commonwealth country;or
(b) has not attained the age of eighteen years; or
(c) does not have therequisite residential qualifications for inclusion in the register of electors,and who wilfully makes any claim to be included in the register of electors isguilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding one thousanddollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year.
24. Falseobjections.
A person who objects under this Act or anyrules or regulations made thereunder to the inclusion of any other person inany list or register relating to electors prepared under this Act or any rulesor regulations made thereunder upon any ground which he knows or has reasonablecause to believe to be false is guilty of an offence and is liable on summaryconviction to a fine notexceeding five hundred dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding oneyear.
25. Falsestatement for registration.
A person whoknowingly makes a false statement for the purpose of being registered as anelector is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding one thousanddollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.
26. Offence toomit qualified persons from registering.
-(1) Aregistering officer who wilfully or without reasonable excuse omits to registerthe name of any person qualified to be registered or who wilfully frustrates(by any means whatsoever) any such person from being so registered is guilty ofan offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars or toimprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or to both such fine andperiod of imprisonment.
(2) Aregistering officer convicted of an offence under subsection (1) shall, inaddition to any penalty prescribed by that subsection, forfeit his right topayment for his services as a registering officer and, subject to subsection
(3), shall beincapable during a period of seven years from the date of his conviction-
(a) of being qualified as an elector or of voting at any election; and
(b) of being elected amember of the House of Representatives. (3) Where an appeal is made against aconviction for an offence under subsection (1), the incapacity provided for bysubsection (2) in the event of any such conviction, shall continue until theappeal is determined, and thereafter if the conviction is not quashed suchincapacity shall remain in force for a period of seven years from thedetermination of the appeal unless the court hearing the appeal directs thatthe period of seven years shall run from the date of conviction.
27. Offences bypersons employed in the preparation of registers.
-(1) Any personwho, being employed under the provisions of this Act in connection with thepreparation of any register-
(a) knowinglyfalsely certifies any register to be correct; or
(b) wilfully entersin any register the name of any person not qualified; or
(c) wilfully o itsfrom any register the name of any person entitled to be entered therein, shallbe liable on summary conviction to a penalty not exceeding five hundred dollars or to a term ofimprisonment not exceeding six months.
(2) Section 26 (2)and (3) shall apply mutatis mutandis to any person convicted under theprovis ions of this section
Depending on the natureof offence:
- fine notexceeding one thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding oneyear.
- fine notexceeding five hundred dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding oneyear.
- fine notexceeding one thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding twoyears.
- fine notexceeding five hundred dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding sixmonths, or to both such fine and period of imprisonment.
- penalty notexceeding five hundred dollars or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding sixmonths.
