Todeter the possibility of citizens voting multiple times in various centers, thegovernment announced that voters would need to bring both their CPR cards andtheir passports to the polling stations; upon a receipt of a ballot, thepassport would be stamped as a control mechanism. Polling station computerscould determine whether a voter had voted in that particular constituency, butnot in any others. By contrast, there were no general polling stations in themunicipal elections, and voters were only required to present their CPR cards.

Bahrainregistration for civic poll ends

The election committee established awebsite and a hotline to help voters access the electoral rolls information andanswer their queries.

 

A survey by the committee has revealedthat 76 per cent of people preferred the Internet to check their informationand only 12 per cent preferred visiting the polling stations.

 

'This shows how compatible Bahrainisare in the use of technology. We will conduct weekly surveys on the website tofind out the needs of the people and how best to serve them.

 

The website is open to all organizationswhich want to distribute information related to the elections,' SheikhAhmed said.

'Theconstituencies remain, the polling booths remain. The only change is that it isno more under the Central Governorate,' he added. Every single voter hasto check with the electoral registration counters of their respective areas.The government has also brought the process of registration into the smartphone, through an app, the minister added.
