The Electoral Code, Art. 89 outlines the voting process as follows: Before going into the voting booth, the voter approaches the first assessor and presents his voter card. The assessor must ensure that no traces of indelible ink are visible on the finger of the voter. After checking the indication of the electoral district, the polling station, the registration number of , the names, date and place of birth and home of the voter, the assessor marks in front of the name the voter, and gives the voter the single ballot. Before performing the act of voting, the voter goes into the voting booth to make his/her choice. Once the choice is made, the voter approaches the urn whose opening is regulated by the President, who releases the slot so that elector can introduce the ballot and the President says aloud 'A VOTE' when the ballot is cast.
