Is technology used for identifying voters at polling stations (electronic poll books)?

“Some polling station is using EVIBIS, that is the Electronic Voter Identification and Ballot Issuing System, one will be asked to place a specific finger on a fingerprint scanner. Once the identity has been verified, one will be issued a ballot. The EVIBIS is only used in certain constituencies, so it may or may not be used at your polling location.”

There is no information if EVIBIS is connected to the central voter register or has access only to polling station registration data.
