There is however littleinformation on the verification process, even though the Electoral Lawestablishes an electoral system, the elections scheduled for December 2001 havebeen postponed indefinitely. There has never been an election since the youngnation got its independence in 1993. Local elections have however been takingplace. The locals select representatives from the country's six regions for theNational Assembly. Elections also occur to elect representatives for thecountry's regional assemblies and other posts within the country's districts. All voting for localpublic office has been conducted in town meeting-style sessions presided overby PFDJ cadres. PFDJ stands for People’s Front for Democracy and Justice, theruling party in Eritrea.
