Electronic voting has never been used, but according to PANAPRESS, The Chairman of the Beninese constitutional council, Mr Robert Dossou, has called for the introduction of electronic voting in the coming election to avoiding difficulties linked to manual voting.

'Modernity calls us out. Benin has responded partially to it by establishing LEPI (permanent computerized voters’ roll). Seeing the decade LEPI has taken to be established, it is today urgent for the other aspects of electoral modernity that we from now on to begin studying the possibility for electronic vote,” Mr Dossou said in the presentation of the New Year wishes to the president of the Republic.

He further stated that the time that elapses between the day for the vote and that of the result proclamation is very delicate and the solution would be electronic vote in view of reducing as much as possible the deadline between the two phases.

It is however, not clear whether feasibility studies are being carried out.
