UNDP, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Parliamentary Elections of 2016, Frequently Asked Questions
The 2016 Parliamentary Election Law made the use of Voter Cards discretionary. As the new IEC Voter Registration database has the capacity to assign voters to polling locations directly, the IEC decided that Voter Cards would no longer be required. The number of registered voters is therefore equal to the number of eligible voters.
IEC launches its smartphone application
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) has launched a smart phone application that allows citizens to obtain accurate information about the electoral process. The launch comes as part of the IEC's preparations for the Parliamentary Elections scheduled for September 20, 2016. The IEC spokesman, Jihad Al-Momani, explained that the app allows any voter to enter his or her national ID number to receive information related to the electoral process in all its stages. Maps can also be used through this application to locate the voter's assigned polling center. Voters can also see the names of electoral lists, their logos, numbers and the names of list candidates, as well as information about their electoral district.
