FAQs Registration of political parties
1 Question
What is the process of registration of political parties?

Answer
64 political parties have been recognized by September 2012. The Commissioner shall, before the thirty-first day of January of each year publish a Notice calling upon the political parties which are not treated as recognized political parties by now to make an application to be treated as a recognized political party. But if a notice of an election/ poll has been issued by that time, action to call for applications should be taken after 30 days of such election. Applications shall be submitted according to the provisions of the relevant Act and if not, the applications will be rejected. Decisions shall be taken after scrutinizing the remaining applications and applicants are called for an inquiry, if it deems necessary. Further, the Commissioner is vested with the power to nullify the recognition of the parties which do not comply with the provisions of the Act.
