Thai expatriates got the first chance to exercise their voting rights in an election in their motherland for the 4 March 2000 senatorial election. The overseas voting is in accordance with Section 105 of the present Constitution, which states that a voter whose residence is outside the Kingdom of Thailand shall have the right to cast a ballot in an election of members of the House of Representatives or an election of senators.
