“The 26 December 2004 parliamentary elections were the third parliamentary elections since Uzbekistan regained independence in 1991. These were the first elections since the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted a two-chamber parliament (Oliy Majlis) in the 27 January 2002 referendum. The new legislative chamber includes 120 seats elected in single-mandate constituencies, reduced from 250 seats.”
