Electoral system for the president

Algeria Ordinance No. 97/07 of 6 March 1997, as amended and supplemented, on the Organic Law relating to the Electoral System

Article 155

Elections of the President of the Republic are organized in a two-round uninominal ballot and are won the candidate having won an absolute majority of votes cast.

Article 156

If in the first round, no candidate obtains an absolute majority of votes cast, a second round is organized. Only the two candidates having won the greatest number of votes in the first round take part in the second round.
