Civilian resentment against the privileged position of the military in the DRC would grow stronger. In 1992, Suharto eventually conceded that the number of military seats could be adjusted. Public sentiment set the precedent for the eventual symbolic power (and thus, the loss of their voting rights) of the ABRI in future parliaments, following the disintegration of Suharto's administration.
