Comment

While the NCMP scheme was introduced in 1984, the ‘Nominated Member of Parliament’ (NMP) scheme was introduced in 1990, which allows individuals not affiliated to any political party and not representing any constituency to be appointed into Parliament. Like the opposition members under the NCMP scheme, they can vote on all issues but:

  • Amendments to the Constitution
  • Any motion pertaining to a bill to amend a supply bill, supplementary supply bill or final supply bill
  • Any motion pertaining to a Bill to amend a money bill.
  • A motion of no confidence in the Government removal of the President from office
