67. Are there provisions for conflict of interests for candidates and/or elected officials?

'Article 63. Electoral subjects and candidates. 4. In addition to the conditions envisaged in point 3, the following persons may not run as a candidate or be elected unless they first resign from duty:  a) judges, prosecutors;  b) military in active service;  c) police and national security employees;  ç) diplomatic representatives;
 d) mayors of municipalities in the case of elections for the Assembly;  dh) deputies, when running in elections for local government bodies;  e) prefects when they carry out their functions for elections for the Assembly and local government bodies;  ë) chairs and members of election commissions;  f) President of the Republic;
 g) high officials of the public administration envisaged by law.' (Source: The Electoral Code of the Republic of Albania, No. 10019/29.12. 2008, as amended No. 31/02.04.2015).

Some categories of public officials must resign from office in order to run as candidates.
