The Law on Combating Corruption adopted in 2015 in Belarus defines the citizens registered as candidates in elections (Presidential candidates, candidates for the deputies of the house of representatives, candidates for the members of the Council of Republic of National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, or deputies of local Councils of deputies) as persons equated to public officials (Article 1).

Consequently, the persons equated to public officials, their spouse, close relatives, persons cohabiting and sharing a common household with a public official or a person equated to them shall not be entitled to: accept property (except for souvenirs presented at the course of protocol and other official events) or any other benefits in the form of work or services, as well as to carry out trips at the expense of individuals and (or) legal entities, relations with whom are included in the area of activity of the state official or equivalent (Article 17).
