PARLIAMENT ACT, Principal Act No. 1950-15 Commencement date 21.7.1950 with Amending enactments (up till 28.6.2007).

Trial of petitions.

57.(1) An electionpetition shall be heard in open court.

(2) At the conclusionof the trial the court shall determine whether the person whose election iscomplained of, or any and if so, what other person was duly elected, or whetherthe election was voidand such determination shall be final to all intents as to the matters at issueon the petition.

General, partial and void elections.

 (4) If anyelection becomes void the Governorshall order a new election to be held on a day to be appointed by him.

(5) Where a new election is ordered under thissection the election shall be conducted in the same manner as is directed bythis Act for the conduct of the election in the place of which the new electionis ordered.
