Electoral Commission Act 1996, 16(2) and(3)

 Any party which is aggrieved by a decision ofthe chief electoral officer to register or not to register a party, may within30 days after the party has been notified of the decision, appeal against thedecision to the Commission in the prescribed manner.

(3) The Commissionshall in the case of such an appeal enquire into or consider the matter andmay, subject to subsection (4), confirm or set aside the decision of the chiefelectoral officer.

30 Objections to lists of candidates

(1) Anyperson, including the chief electoral officer, may object to the nomination ofa candidate on the following grounds:

(a) The candidate isnot qualified to stand in the election;

(b) there is noprescribed acceptance of nomination signed by the candidate; or

(c) There is noprescribed undertaking, signed by the candidate, that the candidate is bound bythe Code.

(2) Theobjection must be made to the Commission in the prescribed manner by not laterthan the relevant date stated in the election timetable, and must be served onthe registered party that nominated the candidate.
