Chapter 2. Oblast Courts and Courts Equivalent to Them

Article 17. The Powers of the Supreme Court

1. The SupremeCourt of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall be the highest judicial body forcivil, criminal and other cases which are in the jurisdiction of the general jurisdictioncourts, and shall supervise their activity within the procedural forms providedfor by the law and gives clarifications concerning issues of judicial practice.

2. The SupremeCourt of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall:

1) consider the court casesand materials referred to its jurisdiction;

2) study thejudicial practice, and based on the results of its summarizing, consider theissues of keeping the law by the courts of the Republic when administering justice;

3) issueregulatory resolutions which provide explanations on issues of application ofthe legislation in judicial practice; and

4) Exercise other powersstipulated by the law.
