The Representation of the People (Amendment) Act No. 17 of 2001

 

Section 83:

“(1) Every political party shall keep an account book into which shallbe recorded

(a) all monetary and other forms of contributions received by him duringan election.

(b) the name and address of any person or entity who contributes anymoney or other thing which exceeds twenty-five thousand dollars.

(2) No political party shall accept any monetary or other contributionexceeding five thousand dollars unless it can identify the source of the moneyor other contribution to the Commission.

(3) Every political party procuring the election of a candidate shall,within six weeks after the announcement of the results of the election, file areport of the contributions made by individuals and entities to the Commission.

(4) Every political party shall grant to any officer of the Commission authorizedin writing, access to examine the records and audited accounts kept by thepolitical party in accordance with this section and, on request, shall give allsuch information as may be requested in relation to all contributions receivedby or on behalf of the party.

(5) Every political party shall have its accounts audited within sixmonths after an election that it contested.

(6) The Commission shall impose apenalty of two thousand dollars a day on any party or organization who fails tocomply with this section.”
