"The Leadership Code of Conduct shall require specified officers to declare their incomes, assets and liabilities from time to time and how they acquired or incurred them, as the case may be."

(Article 233(2)a, Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995).

As of June 2, 2017, the Leadership Code (Amendments) Act, 2017, took effect. Section 4 of the Leadership Code (Amendments) Act, 2017, provides for the replacement of Section 4 of the principal act (i.e., Leadership Code Act, 2002) and substitutes as follows: "A leader shall within three months after the commencement of this Code or after becoming a leader; and thereafter every two years, during the month of March submit to the Inspectorate a written declaration of the leader’s income, assets and liabilities in the prescribed form." It adds that a leader shall before the expiration of his or her term of office declare his or her income, assets and liabilities, if his or her term of office expires six months after his or her last declaration.
