40. If there are limits on the amount a political party can spend, what is the limit?

Regulations on spending limits are in place for pre-campaign and campaign periods.
Art. 42 defines pre-campaign expenses as all internal activities carried out with the purpose to define the candidacies for charges contested in the popular election. Spending limits vary from office to office (Law 33-18. Ch.V).
Regulations on pre-campaign expenses:
- President: Seventy Dominican* pesos (RD $ 70.00), per qualified voters registered in the National Electoral Registry.
- Congress: Sixty Dominican pesos (RD $ 60.00), per qualified voters registered in the Electoral Registry at the corresponding province or constituency level.
- Municipal: Fifty Dominican pesos (RD $ 50.00) for mayors and twenty-five Dominican pesos (RD $ 25.00) for councilors, per qualified voters registered in the Electoral Registry of the corresponding demarcation.
- Municipal districts: One hundred Dominican pesos (RD $ 100.00) for district directors and twenty-five Dominican pesos (RD $ 25.00) for members, per qualified voters registered in the Electoral Registry of the corresponding demarcation
Spending limits of campaign expenses per political party will be of 1.75 per registered voter in the electoral register. Campaign expenses include: activity expenses, operational expenses, and propaganda expenses. (Art 2014. Law 15-19 on the Electoral Regime, 2019)
