Austria has adopted the target of net-zero emissions by 2040. Though recent progress has been made, achieving this goal will require significant additional efforts (Climate Change Performance Index), also considering that Austria's energy-related carbon emissions have decreased by 2% since 2000, below the EU average (International Energy Agency).
