Azerbaijan is a significant player in the fossil fuel industry. Oil and natural gas account for approximately 90% of its export revenues and finance about 60% of the government budget, although there have been recent efforts to diversify (International Energy Agency). The country will host UNFCCC COP 29 in November 2024.
