South Korea is a high greenhouse gas emitter (no. 13 in the world, according to the Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research). The country aims to reach net zero by 2050, although the Government partially backtracked on its renewable energy targets recently, and the national energy system continues to partly rely on coal plants.
