The election marked the culmination of the transition that started on 30 August 2023 when the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) seized power ending almost 56 years of rule by a single family.

Its has as its main objective to strengthen the National Assembly's capacity to exercise its legislative, oversight, and representative functions in a more transparent, inclusive, and responsive manner. At the same time, it seeks to foster democratic and effective interaction between the National Assembly and civil society organizations.
