Claudia Sheinbaum won the June 2024 election with more than 50 per cent of the vote, becoming Mexico’s first female president. In addition, since the implementation of the ‘Parity in Everything’ law, more than half of Congress is made up of women. This is a milestone in women’s participation, political representation and access to power.

How Moldova is tackling online disinformation in elections

In 2024 Moldova held a simultaneous presidential election and referendum on EU integration. Given the geopolitical importance of these votes, the country faced growing threats to its electoral integrity from digital disinformation and unregulated online campaign financing. In response, International IDEA partnered with Moldova’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to track online campaign expenditures and identify illicit campaigns.

Bhutanese delegation explores Australian parliamentary innovations

IDEA was honoured to host a seven-member parliamentary delegation from Bhutan, led by Hon.
Sangay Khandu, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, in Australia in October. The purpose of the trip was for the delegation to learn from Australian legislatures’ public awareness programmes, youth engagement strategies and visitor management practices.

Building global parliamentary networks in Myanmar

Following the coup that took place in Myanmar in 2021, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH)—the country’s legitimate interim parliament—used peer-to-peer exchanges and outreach with parliaments to raise awareness of Myanmar’s crisis in multilateral and regional forums.

Supporting transitional authorities in Gabon
