Since May 2023, in light of the intensification of Ukraine’s EU candidacy, International IDEA has supported Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada in enhancing its understanding of the European Parliament’s law-making and internal functioning. As the Rada works towards more intensive EU law transposition, both expertise and direct engagement with European legislators have become vital.

The Dutch Chairship of International IDEA in 2023 culminated in the second bi-annual Council of Member States meeting and a set of side events, organized on 30 November and 1 December 2023 at the Institute’s headquarters in Stockholm and online. International IDEA organized a democratic and transparent dialogue on Darfur, Sudan, for academics, experts, civil society activists, and youth groups from Darfur in the diaspora, in Kampala, Uganda, between 28 and 30 August 2023, titled: ‘From the Horrors of War to the Bliss of Peace, Coexistence, and Stability’.

The transition in the Institute’s leadership also saw the appointment of Norway as Vice Chair.
