Coherence is a joint programme co-created in 2017 between the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA, then MoFALD), the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom (FCDO, then DFID) and International IDEA with the aim of promoting political coherence in local governments through deliberative decision-making process.

Building Federal Democracy in Myanmar (2023-2025) contributes to restoring genuine democracy in Myanmar after the 2021 military coup by supporting legitimate democratic actors to build a new constitutional framework and form institutions that ensure inclusive and participatory governance at all levels.

Nyamdrel II: Support to Civil Society Organisations and Parliament of Bhutan is a 36-month EU-funded project implemented by International IDEA. It aims to enhance democratization and sustainable development by improving the collaboration between Bhutan's Parliament and CSOs. The project focuses on boosting CSOs' abilities to engage with Parliament and participate in legislative processes, while also building the Parliament's capacity to support CSOs and improve public communication.

During the political crisis in Peru after the coup d'état on 7 December 2022, the lack of inclusive mechanisms for dialogue between political and social actors to address the interests of citizens became evident. One of the most serious results of this situation has been the violent protests that have claimed dozens of lives.

In Peru, citizens perceive that their elected authorities are disconnected from citizen interest. This representation gap is exacerbated by major corruption scandals and political crises that occur constantly at all levels of government.

In recent years, Peru has implemented various changes in its rules of political representation, responding, among others, to the recommendations of the electoral observation missions of the European Union in 2016, 2020 and 2021. These changes include legislation to guarantee selection processes of more democratic candidacies, promoting gender parity and alternation in lists, as well as additional mechanisms to increase transparency and control of political financing.
